We invite you for a three-hour workshop offering an experiential introduction to the Hasidic world through nigun, rhythm, movement and dance. 💃🕺 The bar will be open throughout for refreshments.
Hasidic dance is a living movement tradition shaped by music, community, ritual and inner experience. It can be restrained or ecstatic, collective or deeply personal. A simple step, gesture or turn of the body can carry joy, longing, devotion, humor and release.
At its heart is the nigun, the Hasidic melody without words. Nigun and dance share a language of repetition, variation and transformation: a melody gathers force, the body responds, and movement becomes another way of speaking through the music.
Rather than a collection of fixed choreographies, Hasidic dance is a movement language with its own vocabulary of steps, gestures, rhythms and qualities. Within that language lies great freedom: to respond to the music, the people around you and…
